LaternZona Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TSUGAS ("we", "us", or "our") handles your information in connection with the LaternZona application. LaternZona is built around a single principle: we cannot leak what we never receive.

1. The Short Version

We do not operate any backend server for LaternZona.
We do not collect, store, or transmit your search queries, definitions, bookmarks, or any other personal data.
We do not require an account, email address, or any form of sign-in.
We do not embed any analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, telemetry SDKs, or third-party trackers in the app.

2. Data Processed On Your Device

LaternZona runs an on-device language model (Gemma) to generate dictionary entries and example sentences. The following data is created, used, and stored exclusively on your device:

Search Queries: The words and phrases you look up are sent to the on-device model only. They never leave your device.
Bookmarks & Saved Vocabulary: Any entries you save are written to local storage on your device.
Flashcard Review Progress: Spaced-repetition state for your saved vocabulary is stored locally.
App Preferences: Language settings, example-style preferences, and similar options are stored in standard iOS user defaults on your device.

3. Network Activity

The app uses the network in only the following narrow situations:

Initial Model Download: On first launch (and when an updated model is available), the app downloads the Gemma model file from a public model distribution service. This is a one-time download per model version; once complete, the app can run fully offline. The download request contains only the standard information required to fetch a file (e.g. your device's IP address as visible to that service). It does not include your queries or any personal data.
App Store Distribution: The app itself is delivered via the Apple App Store, which is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

After the model is downloaded, you can put the device in airplane mode and LaternZona will continue to function indefinitely.

4. Data We Do Not Collect

To be explicit, LaternZona does not collect any of the following:

Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information.
Your search history, bookmarks, or vocabulary lists.
Your location.
Your contacts, photos, calendar, or any data from other apps.
Device identifiers used for advertising (IDFA) or cross-app tracking.
Crash reports or diagnostic data sent to us. (Apple may collect anonymous crash data through its own platform under your iOS privacy settings; we never receive personally identifiable information from this.)

5. Children's Privacy

Because LaternZona collects no personal data of any kind, it does not knowingly or unknowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent age of consent in your jurisdiction).

6. Your Rights and Control

All of your data lives on your device. You can remove any of it at any time:

Delete Bookmarks: Remove individual entries from within the app.
Clear All Data: Deleting the LaternZona app from your device removes all associated local data, including bookmarks, flashcard state, preferences, and the downloaded model.

Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf — and there is no "request my data" mechanism, because we have none of it.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If the app's data practices ever change substantively (for example, if a future version were to introduce optional cloud sync), we will update this policy and disclose the change clearly within the app.
